COURSES

We currently offer a range of part-time Industry programs and a full-time Studio program.

Written in consultation with industry and delivered by industry, all our programs are studio based, fast paced and entirely practical. They are also non-accredited. This is fundamentally important because it gives us the flexibility to make sure you’ll only be learning what industry wants you to learn and nothing else. You don't have to focus on trying to pass exams and get a qualification, just focus on being the best designer you can be.

As well as being industry focused, our programs are designed to provide you with an opportunity to develop your own sense of aesthetic in an area of specific interest. We are also committed to creating a real life studio experience as far as is possible within a learning environment.

Our selection criteria means every student is keen, focussed and talented. To be a student at Tractor you’ll need to have successfully completed at least one year in a tertiary design course or have at least the equivalent experience in the design industry.

Programs are held in the CBD in a warehouse, shop, studio, gallery, workshop, depot, fort, barn, shed or armoury. Never in a classroom.

Applications are now open for Sydney and Melbourne!

Our Entry Criteria

To be eligible to enroll into a Tractor program, you’ll need to have successfully completed at least one year in a tertiary design course or have the appropriate levels of industry experience.

Admission is by interview only and you’ll need to present a portfolio of your work. We’re not interested in grades or qualifications. What we’re really interested in is your work and how you think - in other words, how you come up with your ideas.

We’re also looking for a high work ethic and real enthusiasm. We want you to work hard, be creative and have fun.

FULL-TIME

3 month studio program

Our Studio program is a full-time course for students and designers who have completed at least one year’s study in an accredited course but who would like to learn all about what it takes to be a successful junior designer and build a dynamic, industry relevant portfolio.

The 3 month program is focused solely on what industry is looking for in junior designers and nothing else.

The maximum number of students in our Studio classes is fifteen.

The program runs for 12 weeks. Monday to Thursday 9.30am to 5.30pm, Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm. That’s 35 hours a week which is basically the same as working for a few months in a commercial studio.
